Geographical Media
As well as reading there are many other great ways to gain understanding in geography in order to prepare for personal statement writing, interviews and starting university. Some of these forms are a little easier and more relaxed than book reading, so experiencing some of these sources can be a nice change, yet still enable you to make progress.
1. TV
There a lots of great geographical TV shows, BBC series such as Africa, The Rise of the Continents, Australia with Simon Reeve and Planet Earth are all well worth watching. Channel 4 also sometimes have interesting documentaries.
2. Radio
BBC Radio 4 is the best station for gaining knowledge, listen out for Crossing Continents, Material World, For Our Own Correspondant, PM, The Today Programme and some of the special one-off programmes. Also Bloomberg Radio is often very interesting and can be accessed via a smartphone radio app such as Tunein.
3. Magazines
The Economist, National Geographic and quality newspapers are obvious choices. But also look out for New Internationalist, The Spectator and The New Statesman for contrasting views on current affairs events.
